How varied can it be?

Standard Deviation and Variance

What is Dispersion -

Standard deviation is the measure of dispersion of a set of data from its mean. It measures the absolute variability of a distribution; the higher the dispersion or variability, the greater is the standard deviation and greater will be the magnitude of the deviation of the value from their mean. On the other hand, Variance in statistics is a measurement of the spread between numbers in a data set, and is calculated by squaring the standard deviation.

The General Formula -

The standard deviation can only be calculated for a given data set.

Where ;

Steps to calculate the standard deviation -

Step 1: Find the mean.

Step 2: For each data point, find the square of its distance to the mean.

Step 3: Sum the values from Step 2.

Step 4: Divide by the number of data points.

Step 5: Take the square root.

To find the Variation -

Square the value obtained by calculating the standard deviation.
